This summer, Korea’s leading figures in the field of humanity came to POSTECH.

From this year, POSTECH started Summer Interuniversity Program (SIP) which provided specialized humanities programs under the aim of turning out the future leader in the field of science and technology.

POSTECH invited five professors for SIP, designed for undergraduate students. Lecturers treated five subjects, unusual in POSTECH but important: anthropology, aesthetics, literature, philosophy, and philosophy of science.

“I taught differently from the way I did in Yonsei University.” said Prof. Park Yee-mun. “Scientists always try to explain the nature in physical phenomena. However, there are many matters that cannot usefully be examined in a scientific way. Students should learn how to explain the universe in a conceptual and fundamental philosophical approach, which is different than the scientific way.”

Also, the lectures as well as the HASS (Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences) program are expected to become the core of the humanity education for students who major in science and engineering by providing in-depth lectures in a brand-new approach.
