Sunrise Festival successfully held

▲ Postechians are participating in one of the activities during the festival.

The 2011 Sunrise Festival started with a celebration on the evening of May 11, and lasted through May 13. This year’s motto was ‘Kwal Kwal Kwal,’ which means gushing in Korean, guaranteeing gushing fun during the festival. Although rain also ‘gushed’ from the sky on the eve, it was in no way enough to cool down the passion of Postechians.

Starting at 7 P.M. on the eve of the festival, Clazz, run by the classical music club HanUlRim, and department bars, run by the sophomore class, opened through the night at the Student Union Building. The location was inevitably changed from the original location, around the Ji-Gok Center, to the Student Union Building, due to the unwelcome rain.

Simultaneously at the Grand Auditorium, showcases by the dance class, Cheero and the Cheero Band, a welcome speech, and performances of the freshmen class from five departments (MSE, MATH, IME, CHEM, CE) were held, respectively. Despite the rain, many came to watch the fruit of the efforts of performers who prepared for a couple of weeks with passion.

On May 12, the day-booths began at 2 P.M. Because the rain had stopped pouring, the festival moved down the 78 stairs near the Ji-Gok Center. Various food booths, offering waffles, patbingsu (iced red beans), and hangover chasers, and other fun activity booths opened during the day. Events like ‘I Am a Chef’, ‘Angry Bird POSTECH Version’, and ‘Suta-Wars’ were specially designed by the festival preparatory committee, and drew wide participation from Postechians.

At 6 P.M. in the evening, the 78 Quiz, hosted by the POSTECH Magazine Editorial Committee, student club performances of VOCES, CTRL-D, P-FUNK, and the Starcraft finals took place, respectively. The department bars also moved down near the Ji-Gok Center area.

Day-booths opened on the May. 13 as well, with many of events from the day before continuing. Many Postechians came out to relieve stress built up from studying for the midterms. POSKING, a talent show, was held at 6 P.M., offering a chance for many Postechians to boast their enormous talent. After POSKING, a guest performance of professional B-Boy dance team ‘Newest Crew’ and performances of student clubs Bremen and Steeler followed. The festival performances concluded with the guest celebrity Han Groo. Night-booths were open all night long for Postechians to enjoy the last bit of the festival.
