On Mar. 25, invited speaker Robert Huber offered a lecture in the POSCO International Center, hosted by the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL).

Robert Huber won the Nobel Prize with his achievement of describing the structure of the protein complex which is essential for photosynthesis.

The lecture was also on the study of proteins. The theme of the lecture was ‘Intracellular Proteolysis: Mechanisms, Structures, and Application.’

Much of Huber’s research is in relation with nuclear science. Specifically, his 1985 research disambiguating the three-dimensional structure of a type of protein complex necessary for photosynthesis from a specific bacteria, which brought him the Nobel Prize, involved X-ray diffraction.

Robert Huber was born in Munich in 1937. He received his doctoral degree from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and carried out  his research projects in various facilities centered at TUM and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. He is now an honorary director of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry.
