French mathematician Jean-Pierre Serre, praised as one of the greatest mathematician of the 20th century, was invited to deliver the 11th ‘A-Un’ Special Lecture titled ‘Number of points mod p’ at the Mathematical Science building on Mar. 30.

Jean-Pierre Serre is celebrated as one of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th century active in algebraic geometry, number theory, and topology. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1954, the Wolf Prize in 2000, and the first Abel Prize in 2003. Especially, he received the Fields Medal when he was only 27, and he still remains the youngest Fields Medalist ever.

With the 100 million KRW donation from A-Un Jeong Hwan Tak in 1990 for the development of the scientific technology research, POSTECH has been inviting world class scholars for special lectures.
