Dongkuk Steel Group and KISWIRE LTD donate 1.5 billion each

POSTECH has now received its first financial aid for the advancement of humanities and social sciences and art and cultural awareness, not for science and engineering.

The Dongkuk Steel Group and KISWIRE LTD signed agreements with POSTECH about their contributions to the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences on Dec. 7 and Dec. 21, respectively.

The fund from Dongkuk Steel Group will be used as the Dongkuk Endowed Professor Fund, which will support a selected professor in the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, who has  exceptional achievement in education and research, for three years. In addition, the fund will be spent on inviting prominent domestic and foreign scholars for special lectures, named the ‘Dongkuk Humanities & Social Sciences Lectures,’ to be held annually.

Professor Jin-Woo Lee, who was once the president of Keimyung University and now a renowned philosopher and head of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, was selected for the first Dongkuk Endowed Professor.

In addition to this, ‘The Hongdeuk Arts & Culture Fund’ will be used to support hosting arts and cultural programs that will cultivate Postechians’ emotional balance and help them understand arts and culture in a broad spectrum.

This great contribution towards POSTECH is not only for Postechians’ arts and cultural awareness, but for academic advancement. Now, KISWIRE has become the biggest single donator to POSTECH by adding prior donations and this year’s grant, which makes a total of approximately three billion KRW.
