POSTECH has colborated with LG Innotek (LGIT)  to acquire core original technologies and customized talent. POSTECH announced an academic-industrial agreement with LGIT, holding a collaboration ceremony on Nov. 23 in the Administration Building. For the next five years, LGIT will support a total of two billion won for research projects and scholarship funds. At the ceremony, President Sunggi Baik and Mr. Young Ho Hur, CEO of LGIT, attended as the representative of each side.

For the smooth progress of collaboration, steering committees will be organized and a technology exchange complex will be established. The main cooperation will include the following three areas: solving research projects related to optics and display components, granting academic-industrial scholarships to graduate students, and recruiting undergraduate interns. Annually, more than three projects, more than ten graduates, and several undergraduates are expected to be supported.

Starting as ‘Goldstar-Alps Electronics Co., Ltd.’ in 1970, LGIT was the first Korean firm to produce general electronic components. It produces global top-selling items such as tuners, precision motors, and tape substrates. In addition, LGIT can cover the field of LED, PCB, mobile, display, network and automotive components. In 2015, it is expected to be in the the top five firms in the field worldwide.

LGIT has also signed collaboration with other universities such as KAIST, Sogang University, and Korea University.

President Sunggi Baik noted “Through the cooperation with LGIT, enriched global competitiveness in material engineering is expected.”
