The Indian student community at POSTECH held its annual Diwali celebration on Nov. 6 at the auditorium in the POSTECH Information Research Laboratories building. The community embraces the national and cultural backgrounds of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India, and gathers regularly to celebrate common festivities.

Pronounced ‘Divali’ and known as the festival of lights, Diwali is a very important five-day festival in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. This special occasion holds religious meaning in celebration of the victory of good over evil. Celebrants usually decorate their houses with lights, do fireworks, and give sweets and gifts to each other. Following the usual practice, they decorated the stage with oil candles.

As it is a religious and joyful celebration with close family and friends, the program started off with a worship song, in which all women came out on the stage and sang. They were followed by kids dancing, singing, and enjoying the culture. Following the celebration was a reception at the Snack Bar in the Student Union building. Each participant brought a dish and they shared their traditional meals with each other.
