On Oct. 29, the Pohang Science City Festival, hosted by POSTECH and Pohang Technopark and funded by the City of Pohang, was held in celebration of POSTECH’s ranking 28th in ‘the Times World University Rankings’ and the 10th anniversary of Pohang Technopark.

The festival took place in POSTECH not only because part of the festival was to rejoice the POSTECH’s rocket climb in the rankings, but also because the festival was a symbol of  science communication, bringing  difficult science to the public more easily.

City mayor, SeungHo Park, officially designated Jigok, the area around the campus and research centers, as Science Park, a mecca of cutting-edge technology and science.

Pohang Technopark, was founded, to be the Silicon Valley of Korea by nineteen private organizations including POSCO and POSTECH with Pohang City in the late 1990s to further develop Pohang as the city of science and technology. For the last ten years, ventures in the technopark have contributed to the national and local economy and technology. With its sustainable business model, the technopark achieved the most corporations per personel and a more than one hundred percent of self-reliance ratio of finance. The technopark has been and will continuously be the womb of young entrepreneurs and scientific ventures.

The stands were occupied with young students who came to celebrate the big event together. The first hour of the festival was an advertisement of Pohang City, POSTECH and Pohang Technopark.Then, several concerts and science performances took place before the speeches.

The climax of the festival began with a performance of CN Blue, a famous Korean rock band and ended with that of Secret, a popular Korean girl group and dance ensemble.
