Recently, three POSTECH professors, Kwang S. Kim, Young Chul Sung and Soo Young Chang have donated an enormous amount of money to the school, for the further development of the school and the welfare of the students. Each professor specified the potential usage of the donation.

Professor Kwang S. Kim of the Department of Chemistry donated 300 million won for a special meal that could possibly be provided once a year. POSTECH designated the fund as the‘Kim Wook Student Welfare Fund’ in honor of Prof. Kim’s father. The day will most possibly be Nov.3 of each year. On  that day, students will be able to have steak dinners for only 2,200 won.

Professor Sung of the Department of Life Science donated a billion won for the reformation of the general life science course. Under the current system, the freshman course is taught by few professors depending on the area of specialization. Prof. Sung said this system might not be effective in teaching students who do not have much foundation in life science. For the reform, he suggested a system of designating one professor, who will teach the courses throughout the entire semester in English.

Professor Soo Young Chang was the second president of POSTECH and is a retired professor of the Department of Electronic & Electric Engineering. Prof. Chang donated 50 million won for the development of a cultural program for students to acquire sufficient cultural background to stand as global leaders.
