Indian students at POSTECH celebrated their connty’s 64th Independence Day on Aug. 15, at the IT auditorium. With about 80 attendees, including Koreans, the event lasted for over an hour. The main event began with singing of national anthems of both India and South Korea. Presentations on India’s past, struggle for freedom, science and technological discoveries, and culture came next.

India’s Independence Day is the day to celebrate its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947. South Korea achieved its complete independence a year after India did, but both share the same date.

Three dignities of POSTECH came to deliver congratulatory addresses. One of the invited guests was the Special Advisor to the President for Public and International Relations Dr. Suh Euiho. HSS department Professor Daniel Suh expressed that both South Korea and India must “put the miserable past behind and move forward”. Deputy Director Nam Sang Hun of the Pohang Accelerator Lab also gave deep appreciation for sharing their culture with the POSTECH community.
