Establishing a branch in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, POSTECH again stepped further toward its vision of globalization. It is unprecedented for a Korean university to have opened an office in Vietnam.

On May 18, POSTECH will have an opening ceremony with fifty or more people including President Baik, some faculty members of POSTECH, and staff-members of the Ministry of Education of Vietnam and associated Vietnamese universities. On May 17 and 18, President Baik will sign an MOU for academic exchange with leading Vietnamese universities and discuss the means and plans for the exchange.

With an office in Hanoi, POSTECH is further expecting the augmentation of academic exchange and joint research with the most prestigious universities of Vietnam and the acquirement of competent students from Southeast Asia. For the realization of the plan, the school plans to increase scholarships and education programs for overseas students.

With the establishment of the Hanoi office, the school foresees a strengthened global network. In addition, POSTECH will found another office in India in October of 2010.

President Baik said, “Without verbatim globalization, a leap for world-class university is far distant.” He continued, “Through the establishment of foreign offices just like the one in Hanoi, POSTECH will not only push ahead for the globalization of the university, but also contribute to nongovernmental diplomacy.”
