Professor Kim Kimoon of the Division of Advanced Materials Science was selected as the Earl L. Muetterties Memorial Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley. Prof. Kim is the first Korean to receive this honor.

Earl L. Muetterties Memorial Lectureship is an honor conferred to the greatest scholar in the subject of inorganic chemistry, in memory of the world-renowned professor Earl L. Muetterties of UC Berkeley. Twenty-five scholars in the fields of inorganic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry, including Henry Taube, the winner of the 1983 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and Richard R. Schrock, the winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry have received this lectureship and honor.

The research areas recognized for the lectureship were the development of metal-organic porous materials with multiple potential applications, such as in catalysis, separation, and gas storage, including the first homochiral metal-organic nanoporous materialhis, and his pioneering work on the family of artificial receptors, cucurbituril as well as supramolecular assemblies based on them.

Prof. Kim will visit UC Berkeley in the early 2011. He will stay in Berkeley for a week delivering the designated lecture twice and having discussions on the latest research trends with professors and students.
