Prof. Cha Hyung Joon Receives Award for Contributions in Bioadhesive Research

Professor Cha Hyung Joon from the Department of Chemical Engineering received the Outstanding Technology Research Award, presented to the most practical, creative research with  significant progress by the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB), South Korea’s most prestigious society in the field of biotechnology.

Prof. Cha is conducting research to develop a revolutionary biomedical adhesive from bioadhesive extracted from marine mussels. With this research, he not only has published fourteen papers, but also has applied for nineteen international and four domestic patents. For such contributions in the bioadhesives field and making this into a product, he has been selected to receive this honorable reward.

Most notably, Prof. Cha is attracting attention from academia as the world ‘s first to pioneer a molecular biotechnology to commercialize the protein extracted from mussels.

The presentation ceremony will be held on the 16th at the 2010 KSBB General Spring Symposium.
