▲ President Baik declared Bilingual Campus at the matriculation ceremony.
The official languages of POSTECH became Korean and English from the 2010 Matriculation Ceremony held in Mar. 2 at 11AM in the university auditorium, when a total of 868 undergraduate and graduate students joined the university.

The ceremony was not only to celebrate 307 B.A, 203 M.S, 105 Ph.D and 255 M.S-Ph.D integrative program candidates to POSTECH, but also to declare the initiation of the ‘Bilingual Campus Plan.’ This new arrangement encompasses lectures, meetings and administrative documents which will be conducted and written in both Korean and English.

In his matriculation address, President Baik stated, “Using English as another official language on campus is the first step POSTECH needs to take in order to develop into a real world-class university.”

This year’s freshman students were all selected by POSTECH’s new admissions procedure named the Admissions Officer System. The renewed system places an emphasis on the individual’s unique talents and aptitudes rather than the student’s test scores. The adoption of such a system is the first among Korean universities.

The President added that all faculty and staff members will devote all energy to providing full educational support and sufficient welfare benefits to future global leaders.

On the day of the ceremony, Woo Hyun Paik of LG Electronics was invited to give a congratulatory speech about the desired virtues and reasoning of global leaders in today’s society.
