Phytohormone Transporter Expected to Protect Plants / Usage of Artistic Technique on Investigating Cells

The first report of a transporter carrying abscisic acid (ABA), synthesized in plants undergoing stresses like climate and salinity, was done by POSTECH faculties. So, a new possibility of modifying plants to adapt to harsh environments can be suggested. In the process, the discovered transporter (ABCG40) genes translate ABCG40 proteins which quickly absorb ABA into cells, activating stress-tolerant genes inside cells. Professor Youngsook Lee of the Department of Life Science directed the research and it was presented in the Proceedings of National Academy of Science of the United States of America (PNAS).

Using a stencil, a method used for dying and engraving, a new technique which allows interaction between structural cells of the liver as presenting novel approach to generate layered patterns of hepatocytes was discovered. Professor Jaesung Park of the Department of Mechanical Engineering designed the micro-fabricated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stencil for organizing layers of hepatocytes with non-hepatocytes. Many fields are expected for applications, even in experiments of an artificial liver outside the body. It was published in Biotechniques.
