Professor James Won-Ki Hong of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was elected as the online content director of Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society. His term begins as of January 2010 and will last for two years. His appointment is meaningful in that he is the first Korean professor to be voted as a director of the institute.

The IEEE Communications Society provides easily accessible online services that help research development to worldwide members, such as a digital library, an online publication, web seminars and tutorials. The online content director orchestrates all these services.

Professor Hong has been an active volunteer both in and out of POSTECH. He is not only a director of the POSTECH Information Research Laboratories (PIRL) but also the head of the department of CSE and the division of IT Convergence Engineering. In addition, he has served as the chair and steering committee member for various ComSoc sponsored symposiums and committees.
