Dr. Kihyo Jung of the Department of Industrial Engineering won the Alphonse Chapanis Best Student Paper Award at the ‘2009 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) academic conference’ held in San Antonio, United States, from Oct. 19 to 23. HFES is the leading and authoritative ergonomics society. It chooses the winner of this award after examining papers and presentations.

Dr. Jung attracted many researchers’ attention by suggesting a new method for generating representative digital human models based on statistical theory in his thesis, ‘Development of the boundary zone method for generation of representative human models’. It is expected that this method will be utilized in user-oriented design and evaluation in the digital design technology platform.

One notable thing is that Dr. Jung’s director, Prof. Heecheon You of the Department of Industrial Engineering, also won this award in 1999. That is to say, Dr. Jung raised POSTECH’s research reputation by following his professor in winning the authoritative award.
