Outgrowing score-based evaluation

The POSTECH admission system has entirely changed this year with support from the national government.

This new system is expected to work better than the old one, as POSTECH  will select students after considering all factors, not only SAT scores which were the most important points for selecting students in the past, but also non-curriculum factors like leadership, potential, communication with people, volunteer work, etc. These factors will become matters of consequence.

The system was introduced to Korea for the purpose of removing certain negative effects related to customs resulting from university entrance examinations. Before, in some aspects, the more students had private education, the easier they could enter a university. To counter this, POSTECH has become a leader in this new admission system.

In this year, 1,814 students applied for POSTECH, which will select 302 students. This shows that the new admission system is a matter of primary concern for the examinee. POSTECH will select candidates by examining their career papers, then selecting three times the final quota, and finally individually testing remaining candidates in two steps, the Potentiality Interview and the Math and Science Interview.

POSTECH will put up the list of those who had passed the career paper examination on the POSTECH admission affairs homepage (admission.postech.ac.kr) by Oct. 17. Individual interviews will be taken between Oct. 21 and 24. The successful candidates will be notified by Nov. 6.
