Professor Moo-hyun Cho from the Department of Physics won the commendation from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for his contribution to the development of KSTAR, known as ‘the Korean artificial sun’ on Sep. 9.

Professor Moo-hyun Cho was the person in charge of developing the source of electric power for KSTAR. He was higly recognized for his success in localizing high-voltage source devices. The devices that he developed were high-voltage sources with a high frequency inverter type and a high current source device with a 20kA direct current, which were judged to provide an opportunity to localize related technologies by making use of a high voltage device for the metallic gliding of steel mills as well as the environmental management field.

Receiving a doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin, he was appointed as an assistant professor in POSTECH in 1989 and has been well-known as a world class scholar for his research about Plasma Physics. He has been leading the development of the Tokamak power supply system for KSTAR since 1995.

Meanwhile, the National Fusion Research Institute celebrated the regular operation of KSTAR. Also, a KSTAR regular operation ceremony was held to thank all those who participated in this scientific project for their services in the National Fusion Research Institute held  in Daejon on Sep. 9.
