On July 17, POSTECH President Sunggi Baik attended the 2009 US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship held in North Carolina, as a plenary speaker. The topic of his speech was “Roles and Challenges of Research Universities as the Core of Knowledge Clusters.”

President Baik gave a lecture about the roles of research universities, focusing on the examples from POSTECH. He presented ways to nurture young scientists into future global leaders, while emphasizing the need of innovating the high school education system to bring about successful research in a fast-changing knowledge society.

The conference has been opening an arena for cooperation and exchange of science technology between the US and Korean scientists, and the illumination of international science trends and future directions.

This year’s UKC convened over 900 scientists from both countries, including renowned plenary speakers such as Professor Sidney Altman 1989 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and James Woodward, Chancellor of North Carolina State University.
