Last July 18~24, the ‘Kum Nan-sae  Music Festival and Academy with POSTECH’ was held at POSTECH. Conductor Kum is a world-class conductor endeavoring to spread orchestral music everywhere. This was an academy for orchestra and ensemble. The participating students were from Gyeongbuk Arts High School, POSTECH, Keimyung University, and others. This program was aimed for students to enjoy the pleasure of playing choral and chamber music and experience playing on a stage.

Under the Kum’s baton, world-class  clarinetist Leif Pedersen (Oslo Philharmonic, Eurasian Philharmonic and Kyeonggi Philharmonic senior player) taught the participants every day. The participants showed Pohang citizens how well they  were taught by holding an opening concert(July 18), an ensemble concert(July 22), a chamber concert(July 23) and a symphony concert(July 24). These concerts were very successful, with 1,700 Pohang citizens applauding at last Symphony concert.

Conductor Kum said, “In fact, Korean music education is only for university admission, so most students are playing music not for society, but for beating other students. I want the participants to really enjoy the essence of music and that’s why I’m here.”
