The POSTECH Spring Festival 2009, held on the 14th and 15th of May, is considered to have gathered more people compared to festivals of previous years.

This year's motto, “Yasu,” has the double meaning of Postechians enjoying the Festival like “wild beasts” (yasu) and the celebration of a night market, feasting at night (ya) and having fun by the water (su).

On the eve of the Festival, the passion put into numerous dance, singing and band performances by POSTECH students was enough to heat up the stage. However, the highlight of the day had to be the famous Korean pop girl group, KARA, who “rocked” the stage and the audience with their song “Rock U” and other hits.

The first day of the Festival included events such as “The Age of Discovery” (a game with a mission to take the most prizes in Jigok Pond), “The 78 Quiz” in front of the 78 Stairs, and a cooking competition. “The Age of Discovery,” prepared by Spring Festival Student Association, especially drew enthusiasm among students.

Pubs representing ten departments opened at night, at the same time when dance performances by students of the Departments of Industrial & Management Engineering, Mathematics, Material Sciences & Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, and shows of student rock bands took place on stage.

Sticking to the motto, on the second day, “The Drawing Water Competition” was held sponsored by the Spring Festival Student Association booth. At night, the Unity Fete involving a campfire in celebration of the end of the Festival took place. Pubs, originally located in the parking space in front of 78 Stairs, were partially moved to Student Union building due to chances of rain.

In terms of the running of the Festival, events ran smoothly - even with the first appearance of a famous pop group in the POSTECH Spring Festival, where overexcited fans managed to avoid any accidents.

Increased participation raised the question of whether the coming of famed celebrities had any impact. POSTECH students have right to enjoy the Spring Festival. Without the help of guest stars, it is time for students to actively play main roles in this Festival.
