Achieving My Unfinished Dream
When I was young, my dream was to become a reporter. In elementary school, I worked for the Seoul Children’s Press Group for three years. I did several interviews and wrote many articles. I felt a lot of pride as a reporter when I saw my article on the front page of the newspaper, and I think my dream began from that experience.
As I entered middle school, I became interested in science and engineering, so my childhood dream of being a reporter slowly faded away, but I still did not completely let it go.
In high school, I wrote for my school’s English newspaper, but it was difficult to write an article in English. Nonetheless, I wrote with passion and effort, and I felt proud that all the students at school read my article. Also, I could learn how to effectively write articles and feel the responsibility of being a reporter.
Now at POSTECH, I am going to achieve my dream while working as a reporter for The Postech Times.
As a reporter, I have three goals to achieve.
First, I want to become a reliable reporter. I will base my articles on factual accuracy, deliver information that our readers will take interest in, and consequently, contribute to the integrity and credibility of The Postech Times.
Second, I want to become an interesting reporter who will write about the latest trends and various cultural events that readers are interested in. It is very important to write about new trends because many people follow current fashion through reading newspapers. Newspapers play a role in delivering not only serious content but also content that can draw readers’ attention.
Lastly, I want to become a compassionate reporter. I will write about social minorities and attempt to be a voice for them. Reporters should play a role in trying to improve conditions for minorities in any situation. Through such a role, reporters should improve society for all citizens.
I will do my best to accomplish my goal to be a reliable, interesting, and compassionate reporter. I hope you will read my articles with interest and watch me grow into a respectable reporter.

What is Your Story?
Stories have always fascinated me, in part because they were a glimpse into a world that I had never experienced before, and also in part because they were just interesting. In high school, English Literature was my favorite subject—I loved reading and analyzing diverse works through different types of critical lenses. Of course, there is more to literature than just analyzing random works. I created my own versions of Greek mythology (inspired by Madeline Miller), wrote analytical commentaries about literature that depicted war (courtesy of Joseph Heller), and discussed Twilight from the feminist lens (one of many critical lenses utilized in literature).
I took interest in The Postech Times because I wanted to share stories that are interesting or meaningful. The press has a long-held responsibility of covering stories that have an impact in some way. They form public opinions, are capable of steering people’s thoughts towards a certain direction, and change pre-set opinions of people. As a reporter for The Postech Times, my goal is to convey meaningful and interesting news to others, becoming someone who can connect our small, tight-knit community with the world beyond.
Living in a world that is rapidly changing and evolving, we receive most of our information from the internet. However, newspapers will still persist as the pinnacle of the press. People can read and glean information from them easily. Bearing this in mind, I will be a responsible reporter who writes with enthusiasm, integrity, and accuracy. As someone who knows the effect that my words can have, I will endeavor to take care in choosing which words I use and what I write.
The Postech Times is a window through which people can see stories that are happening in the world we live in. With this knowledge, I am prepared to put my effort into The Postech Times to be a stepping stone between stories and people.

Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone
Is there something you have always wanted to do, but just have not? A university is a place where students can try new things and take on new challenges. The years at university are going to pass whether I like it or not, so I thought of what I always wanted to do and will give it a shot. This is my first shot at stepping out of my comfort zone.
A comfort zone is “a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress.” To stimulate personal growth, people must leave this zone and go into the learning zone. You can do this by learning new things and stretching beyond your current limitations.
During my high school days, just like most other students at my school, I was a student who had little interest in the humanities. However, I have always had a lot of interest in overseas issues, and I have a great passion for posting articles. Therefore, as a new challenge, I applied for The Postech Times.
I might struggle at first, but I will set goals and focus on making progress. I will continue to make small but incremental changes through the process of finding topics, writing articles, and proofreading articles, while paying attention to overseas issues and social issues.
As an assistant reporter, I want to write my articles diligently and will welcome feedback from seniors to improve my English writing skills. In high school, it was hard to improve my writing skills because of study requirements and laziness. However, I recognized the importance of English and have a strong desire to improve my English skills. Now, I am prepared to improve and use my skills instead of simply being confined to the repetitive studies of textbooks.
News can convey meaningful truth and useful information. It can also affect social awareness. Directly posting such information is meaningful and it is something I really want to do. I am very enthusiastic and I also feel a great responsibility to deliver up-to-date and relevant information through The Postech Times. I will always work hard to deliver trustworthy information based on this sense of responsibility.

Looking Deeper, Rather than Far Away
I like expressing my inner thoughts through writing. These days, when many people are immersed in social media and YouTube, writing was an attractive alternative that allowed me to share honest stories without using other tools such as videos and sounds. In the past, through writing book reviews, editorials, and so on, writing has become my identity capital.
My career in journalism started with the Korea Youth Press in high school. I wanted to broaden my view of the world through writing and write something helpful to someone, so I held a pen. Being a reporter fit me better than I thought, and I wished to continue my journalism life to contribute to school even after I came to POSTECH. It was especially captivating that I could change where I belong in solidarity with others.
There are two newspapers in our school, Korean and English, but I chose the latter. Since my English skills are not very fluent, I believe I can learn a lot from my fellows, and this will make me work hard to improve. As such, it results in more refined writing style, and I can strengthen my own mindset toward writing. With this in mind, I knocked on the door of The Postech Times.
As a reporter of The Postech Times, I would like to meet lots of people from all walks of life. I want to learn much from communicating with coworkers and provide interesting articles. Also, I hope to meet people from various fields and listen to their voices through interviews.
There is a goal that I do want to achieve. It is to ask questions and influence some change in the world. If there is a problem, I am going to boldly complain about it and attempt to change world around me. Specifically, I will create a fairer society by paying attention to the opinions of minorities.
My journalistic ethic is that a reporter should look deeper rather than look far. It is also necessary to deliver diverse news from afar, but it is meaningful to investigate one story deeply and faithfully. Reporters must actively reflect readers’ feedback, publish follow-up articles, and take all the responsibilities of a reporter. Besides, in-school news cannot be obtained from the Internet, so field coverage is required to publish them. I will do my best with other reporters. I sincerely look forward that our school will develop further by doing so. I end this article with the hope that more people will read The Postech Times.
