Lee Guk-jong, the celebrated head of Ajou University Hospital’s trauma center, recalled Yoon Han-deok as being instrumental in organizing Korea’s emergency care system over the last 15 years.
According to the National Medical Center (NMC), a public hospital as a subpart from the Health Ministry, Yoon Han-deok, the head of its National Emergency Medical Center, was discovered passed away in his office. At just 51, Yoon died of an apparent heart attack. A NMC doctor who conducted a preliminary autopsy concluded that Yoon’s heart attack may have been caused by years of stress and overwork. 
His death shed light on the poor working conditions faced by emergency medical staffs. They often struggle with a lack of manpower and long working hours, which force them to sacrifice their own health to deliver high-quality emergency medical services. 
“We will probably not see anyone like him in the medical field for some time,” Lee said at Yoon’s memorial service. A graduate of Chonnam National University’s medical school, Yoon joined the NMC’s emergency center when it first opened in 2002. He has been hailed for his effort to establish and improve the country’s emergency medical system. He tirelessly convinced lawmakers to secure funds in the budget to introduce air ambulance in 2011 and to establish trauma centers.
His son said, “I hope my father’s lifetime dream to make Korea a country where emergency patients receive treatment properly at the right time comes true.”
For the deceased, it is more important to realize his wish ‘the Right Patient in the Right Place at the Right Time’. Now people should share the wright he had dangerously carried.
