‘The 4th Univer+City, University and City co-progress forum’ was held on Dec. 20 by Pohang city, Ulsan city and Gyeongju city.Those regions are called Haeoreum Alliance and they cooperate with regional universities. Univer+City forum is held annually to contribute to the vitalization of economy and development of universities for sustainable progress and innovation of the region.  150 officials were from universities such as POSTECH, Ulsan university, Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Dongguk University Gyeongju Campus, etc. as well as people of Haeoreum Alliance.

“I sincerely hope that Ulsan, Gyeongju and Pohang will become one and successfully develop sustainable development, change, and innovation through cooperative relations between mountains, universities, and government offices in order to promote win-win development of universities and cities,” said Lee Dae-won, president of Gyeongju Campus in his opening speech.

“I hope that universities in the three cities, which share a close living right in history, geography and industry, and the representative small and medium-sized businesses and venture companies will promote win-win development to find new growth engines for the local industry,” Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok welcomed participants.

In the second part, local governments of Haeoreum Alliance and major universities discussed and announced the issues regarding cooperation plans and examples of co-progress. President Kim Doh-Yeon said “It is high time for universities and cities should work together for sustainable development due to economic downturn. Univer+City should pay more attention to the research infrastructure and technology of universities, while valuing each other’s existence.”
