Poong Jeon Nonferrous Metal Co., Ltd., a global midsized company with ecofriendly non-ferrous alloy technology, donated 500 million KRW to POSTECH, encouraging the strengthening of humanities and social sciences education.
Song Dong-chun, chairman of Poong Jeon, recently visited POSTECH with executives including  and presented 500 million KRW as a fund for the development of the Humanities and Social Sciences department. Normally, company donations are for the development of subject areas related to those companies. It is unusual for a company related to non-ferrous metal alloys and eco-friendly recycling to be interested in humanities and social sciences education, rather than engineering.
Chairman Song said that “POSTECH may be a science and technology university, but it emphasizes convergence of thought and creativity to help students not to be hampered by the walls of a single major by humanities and social sciences education.”
