I have never produced an article in my whole life. I never thought I would. Always formulating equations and calculating numbers, I restricted myself to maths and science and distanced language and literature. Just like most scientists and engineers, I simply thought producing a prose was for those who did liberal arts.

However, when I became aware of The Postech Times, I realised that scientists and engineers can be writers too. I realised that scientist and engineers can be reporters, producing their own articles, especially of high quality and on non-science topics. At that very moment, I decided to become both a scientist and a reporter. And now that I have been given the opportunity to work as a reporter at The Postech Times, I aspire to become an experienced one.
Newspapers are affectual. And once it is published the process is irreversible. Therefore, when writing an article, the reporter must always be aware of the influence of her production and carefully compose her commentary.

When writing an article, a reporter must fully understand what she is going on about; she must gather useful information, seriously ponder on the topic, and acquire complete comprehension. Furthermore, a reporter should not simply embrace information, but discuss and debate, carefully constructing her opinion on the certain topic. Finally, a reporter must engrave that opinion of her own in a logical manner - not being biased but persuasive - and produce an article that will trigger a thought process in the reader’s mind, making her speculate on what they just read and build an opinion of their own. This process is what I aim to do whilst I work as a reporter at The Postech Times.

More specifically, as a reporter of The Postech Times, I aim to become more aware of politics, society, and humanities, and to inform our members of POSTECH about such topics. Studying at POSTECH, a science and technology-oriented university, and living in Pohang, a geographically isolated area, POSTECH students do not have many opportunities to be well-informed about social issues. Hence, as a reporter of The Postech Times, I will keep myself alert towards current affairs and will write informative articles, providing the POSTECH community access to events of political and social interest.

Furthermore, not only will I write such articles, but I will contemplate about the pros and cons, various outcomes of such events, especially how they will affect science and technology – more specifically, how they will affect POSTECH and us, members of the university. For example, if North Korea and South Korea become unified, how will this affect us, potential scientists and engineers? What new resources will we have access to, what new technology will we develop, and what new researches will we execute? There are many questions I would like to answer.

By producing various articles in such manner, I hope acquire expertise in literature, improve my knowledge of the world, and become an accomplished reporter. Furthermore, as a reporter of The Postech Times, I hope that members of POSTECH will benefit from my articles too; I hope that they will become more knowledgeable and develop a broader perspective towards the world.
