2017 POSTECH Commencement Ceremony

On Feb. 9, POSTECH holds its Commencement Ceremony for the 2017 academic year. POSTECH graduates, and their guests will be at the POSTECH Gymnasium, starting from 10:40 A.M. This year, a total of 776 students will have earned a degree, including 325 B.S., 195 M.S., and 256 Ph.D. students. The ceremony starts with the procession of academic graduates, in the order of flag bearers; students with the degree of Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. After the allegiance and national anthem; a report on academic affairs by the president of academic affairs, commencement addresses of President Kim Doh-yeon and the chairman of the board follow. Proceeding from this, is the conferment of honorary doctorates and degrees.
This year, Kang Mi-ryang (CHEM 13) is honored as the valedictorian in the field of engineering and natural science. Lee Jung-ho (EEE 12) is honored as the valedictorian in the field of engineering. Song In-taek (CHEM, Ph.D.) and Jo Dong-hee (SEE, Ph.D.) gain the honor to receive the ‘Chung Sung-kee Thesis Paper Award’ and the ‘Chang Kun-soo Thesis Paper Award’. The ‘Chung Sung-kee and ‘Chang Kun-soo Thesis Paper Award’ are each awarded to the best thesis paper in the field of natural science and engineering. The ‘Kim Ho-gil Medal (Mueunjae Award)’ goes to Jang Sae-yoon (MSE 12). The award has been given to praise the contribution of a Postechian to the development of POSTECH. Lastly, Kim Sang-sik (SEE Ph.D.) attains the honor to receive the ‘POSTECH Alumni Association Chairman Award’.
The ceremony ends with the valedictorian’s address, a graduation song performed by the POSTECH choir, the university anthem played by the POSTECH Orchestra, and closing remarks. After the ceremony, a luncheon is held at the POSCO International Center Grand Ball Room.
