Liver cancer is the second highest cause of death amongst types of cancer. Progressive liver cancer only can be cured through the treatments for cancer. Professor Lee Yoon-tae (LIFE) and Kim Sang-uk (LIFE) and a graduate student Kim Eun-jeong (LIFE) verified that if Capicua (CIC), which is concerned with the progress of liver cancer, is decreased, cancer cell increases and escalates the speed of progression. The team of Prof. Kim verified that when ETV4 and MMP1, the subordinate control elements of CIC, are increased, the survival rate of patients decreases. Prof. Lee mentioned that “Not only CIC can be used as a brand new index factor, but also increases the possibility of the development of a targeted medicine for liver cancer.”
